WHAT IT IS

What photobiomodulation actually does.

Photobiomodulation (PBM) is the therapeutic application of low-level near-infrared and red light to tissue. Near-infrared light penetrates the skull and is absorbed by mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase, supporting cellular energy production and modulating inflammatory signaling. Because PBM is so helpful in tissue healing, increasing bloodflow, and reducing inflammation, the clinical applications most relevant to our functional neurology approach are in post-concussion recovery, neurodegenerative support, and brain-fog protocols.

WHAT A SESSION LOOKS LIKE

What a PBM session looks like.

The PBM devices cover your head and deliver near-infrared light at a specific wavelength for approximately 20 minutes. The sensation is mild warmth at most, and you can sit, read, or rest during the session.
For specific applications like targeted PBM for focal areas — we use handheld systems for shorter, more targeted treatments.
